Ronda Rousey, 39, Reveals She Avoids Overtraining Ahead of Gina Carano Clash
Ronda Rousey told New York Post Sports she is prioritizing recovery over intensity. The MMA star is preparing for her upcoming bout against Gina Carano. Rousey’s new training philosophy focuses on collaboration to avoid burnout. But despite the intense training sessions, what makes her say that she is enjoying the time?
Her fight against Carano is set to main event of the Netflix fight card promoted by Jake Paul's MVP. If her Instagram videos are to be believed, then Rousey's preparation has been rigorous. But during the interview, Rousey stated:
"I think it's um in being really collaborative in the process, and um making sure that that training is um not breaking my body down to the point that I'm absolutely miserable all the time."
She has designed her workout program in a way that it doesn't overwhelm her or obstruct her personal life. She has allotted her morning for intense training sessions, and the rest of her day is for recovery and spending time with her daughters.
Her husband has also played a supportive role in her journey by building a cage in their garage so that she can practice with her kids around.
Ever since her fight with Gina Carano was officially announced, she has been posting pictures and videos of her training camp. The UFC champion is being trained by coach Ricky Lundell, with AJ Matthews acting as her striking coach and helping her brush up on her judo skills.
She shared her first video on February 25, in which she was seen engaged in pad work with Matthews. In many of her training videos, her daughters are seen running around, keeping their mom company.
How was Ronda Rousey's experience training under her student?
Ricky Lundell might be coaching Ronda Rousey right now, but there was a time when he was Rousey's student. Under her training, he won his black belt in judo, and now he is preparing her for her biggest fight ever. And Rousey is liking every minute of it.
"I love that he was my student first, and he took the time to really understand my system and how I think. And before coming to me and letting me know what he thought would work for me, and it's always been much more of a partnership than a dictatorship, and I think that has really brought the best out of both of us."
Will their partnership pay off, or will Gina Carano and her coach, John Woods, dominate the fight? Stay tuned to Bodybuilding Bros to get all the updates.
