Years after retirement, Ronda Rousey is back with a bang. As she gears up to face Gina Carano this May, the former UFC champion has dropped intense boxing clips online, instantly grabbing fans’ attention.
Ahead of her fight against Carano, Rousey has intensified her training routine, and it clearly shows in her boxing skills. Just a week ago, Cage Culture uploaded footage of Rousey trading shots with her coach during camp, and her punches show that even after a decade away from MMA, the champ still packs power.
The internet soon caught upto the footage as the fans rallied to support their former champion. “Much better ngl,” writes a fan as the day of the fated clash draws near.
One of the fans was so impressed that he believed she would be able to take on multi-division world boxing champion Claressa Shields, “I’ve seen enough. Give her Claressa .”
Despite the support, there are some who believe that she might have been watered down by retirement, “Damn…lol that’s bad man lol.”
Well, we shouldn’t forget that Rousey is keeping a tab on her judo and jiu-jitsu workouts as well. Earlier this week, she shared a montage from her camp where she was polishing her BJJ skills.
“There’s so many BJJ moves that have these super dramatic names like ‘anaconda,’ ‘crowbar,’ ‘jailbreak,’ ‘night of the living dead,’ ‘kiss of the dragon,’ ‘electric chair,’ etc that we decided to start giving moves the most pansy a** names possible to amuse ourselves. Behold: The Spaghetti-O,” she wrote in the captions.
Of course, the training camp is packed with humour, but this was just a reminder for Carano of what is about to come knocking at her door inside the cage. However, while she is fired up, Gina’s camp intends to meet punch for punch.
“I Can Tell You This, She’s Fired Up,” Said Gina Carano's Head Coach, on Ronda Rousey Fight
Just like Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano will be returning to the fighting world after a long break. Her last fight was against Cris Cyborg in 2009, which ended in a defeat.
With a record of 7–1, ‘Conviction’ is motivated to come back stronger, and what bigger victory could there be than defeating someone like Rousey?
“I can tell you this, she’s fired up. We’re firing on all cylinders already,” said Carano’s head coach, John Wood, on February 16. “She’s coming out there to win that fight. There is no intention of just showing up. Showing up’s not good enough. Showing up for me isn’t even acceptable. We’re going out there to win the fight.”
Wood expressed that the training is on point and that they have a pretty good team to back up her performance inside the cage, “I think she’s going to go out there and do amazing things.”
The inaugural Netflix MMA bout will take place on May 16. Who are you rooting for?
