Ronnie Coleman compares his peak physique to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s prime; netizens react

Bodybuilding’s biggest legends, Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger, are known for their incredible but widely different physiques. Coleman, known for his massive size and muscles, and Schwarzenegger, with his balanced, aesthetic physique, are remarkable in their own ways.

Coleman recently took to Instagram to ask netizens their opinions on who they thought had a better peak physique- him or Schwarzenegger. While the topic sparked massive discussion in the comments section, the opinions seem divided.

The post, captioned, “Ronnie Coleman vs Arnold Schwarzenegger. Who you all got in this legendary battle?!” gained over 40,000 likes within two days.

Coleman and Schwarzenegger represent two eras of bodybuilding perfection. Schwarzenegger (6'2", ~235 lbs) embodied classical aesthetics: dramatic V-taper, balanced proportions, and iconic posing. Coleman (5'11", ~300 lbs) was a mass monster with unmatched thickness, density, and grainy conditioning.

While Coleman fans guarded his position, Schwarzenegger fans believe the latter remains the ‘father of bodybuilding’.

Fans split over Ronnie Coleman vs. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s prime physiques

Some age-old debates never seem to have an end. One of these debates remains the ‘Coleman vs. Schwarzenegger’.

Eight-time Mr. Olympia, Coleman, enjoyed his peak years from 1998 to 2005, with unmatched muscles and strength. On the other hand, Schwarzenegger’s prime years extended from 1970 to 1975, where he won Mr. Olympia six times consecutively.

One fan shared his love for both, saying, “Arnold is the father of bodybuilding, and Ronnie is the greatest bodybuilder ever.”

This can be considered quite true and to the point, as both belong to different eras and are legends in their sport.

However, Schwarzenegger fans were quick to defend the icon, commenting, “Arnold is the greatest bodybuilder of all time,” or “Arnold is the BEST.”

Without hesitation, Coleman fans jumped in with comments like, “The king Ronnie Coleman,” or “You know the answer sir…. Ronnie, always Ronnie.”

However, there were quite a few interesting comments from fans that caught everyone's eye.

“The only thing I can say, and I kind of agree with you, if Arnold had the gear these guys had, it would be over. Even Ronnie said it, but obviously, Ronnie was in a league of his own,” said one fan.

Many fans seem to believe that Schwarzenegger lacked most of the tools that Coleman enjoyed in his era, making it an unfair comparison.

One fan was quick to defend Schwarzenegger, saying:

“Stop writing nonsense. Arnold won all his titles as the best bodybuilder. Arnold was ahead of his time and surpassed all his rivals. More than 45 years have passed, and Arnold is still the greatest; he is still remembered and admired.”

Schwarzenegger was very instrumental in making bodybuilding into a mainstream sport. Meanwhile, Coleman touched the outer edges of what was possible in regard to size and conditioning, something that no one had seen before.
