Ronnie Coleman Drops an Insane 800 Lb Deadlift Clip Weeks Before Olympia

Ronnie Coleman is the King of lifts, and he just dropped another video to prove that. On April 8, Coleman shared a video on his Instagram in which he is seen deadlifting a staggering 800 lbs. The vintage clip is from his prime, where he is training 5.5 weeks before the Mr Olympia competition.

The clip was part of Coleman's 2000 video, The Unbelievable, in which he performed two raw pulls for two reps of the deadlift. The Unbelievable is one of his most famous training videos that gives a raw, behind-the-scenes sneak peek into how he trained during his prime, especially for the 2005 Mr. Olympia.

The video was released a month after Coleman won his eighth and final Mr. Olympia title. In the video, besides the monstrous 800 lb deadlifts, The King performs incredible feats like 200 lb dumbbell presses, and brutal leg workouts, all the while shouting his iconic lines “Yeah buddy!” and “Light weight baby!”

This video is just one among several deadlift videos the eight-time Mr. Olympia winner has uploaded on his Instagram page over the years. In fact, just two days ago, on April 6, he uploaded an even older video of himself training in the gym and getting pumped by everyone around him.

Was Ronnie Coleman a good powerlifter?

Although a bodybuilder, Ronnie Coleman was an impressive powerlifter too. He followed the HIIT style popularized by Dorian Yates, which helped him lift heavier weights, perform maximum deadlifts, and squats deeper than anyone.

Before The Unbelievable DVD showed his deadlift power, Coleman competed at the annual Texas Deadlift Classic from 1991 to 1994. If Open Powerlifting is to be believed, then his heaviest official pull during that time stood at 330 kilograms (727.5 pounds). And he was just 29 years old when he did that.
