Ronnie Coleman says discipline separates GOATs from others
8-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman's approach to fitness and hardcore training makes him an encyclopedia of bodybuilding and a master of mental fortitude. And according to him, it's discipline that makes an all-time great stand out from the rest.
On May 24, in an Instagram post, the legend shared a philosophy drawn from his experience that justified his view that discipline is the key to success. It showed glimpses of one of his old workout sessions, where he pushed himself to the limit.
In the post he wrote, “If you put in the work and stay dedicated to your craft, you too could be one of the Greatest of All Time!! Yeah Buddy, ain’t nothin to it but to do it!!”
Over the years, Coleman has proved that he lives by this philosophy. Born in Monroe, Coleman had a humble beginning. After graduating from college, he constantly looked for an accounting job but was unable to find one. He did not lose hope. Instead, Coleman started working at Domino's Pizza.
His search for better opportunities brought him to Texas, where he began working as a police officer for the Arlington Police Department. During his time at the department, in 1989, Coleman learned about Metroflex Gym, an incident that would change bodybuilding forever.
Despite a busy job schedule, he did not stop working out and began competing in bodybuilding competitions, eventually dominating the field by winning Mr. Olympia 8 times from 1998 to 2005.
During that time, he demonstrated how to push human limits by displaying superhuman strength, including squatting and deadlifting 800 lbs and bench-pressing 500 lbs.
While Coleman showcased his hard work and dedication at his peak, he has maintained an active life even after retiring and undergoing many surgeries.

Coleman no longer competes in professional bodybuilding, but he still shows why he is considered a GOAT.
On May 11, The King shared a workout video on his Instagram showing his fans how he still performs bench presses. He captioned the post with, “Yeah Buddy, Light Weight Baby!! That’s how we do it in the FLEX!!”
What is more interesting is that, despite having 13 surgeries on his back, neck, and hips, the 62-year-old still holds a passion for sports.
So, does his story inspire you to keep doing your thing, regardless of the forces working against you? Let us know in the comments.
