Ronnie Coleman’s Bodybuilding Passion Hasn’t Changed With Age – “Lightweight Baby”

Even at 62, and after over 10 back surgeries, Ronnie Coleman is still pumping iron. While the retired bodybuilder has faced multiple health challenges, his love for bodybuilding remains the same.

On April 20, Coleman posted a montage with clips from his prime all the way to the present. "No matter how old I get, some habits will never change!! Yeah Buddy, Light Weight Baby," he wrote in a caption.

Throughout his bodybuilding career, Ronnie Coleman won almost every prestigious bodybuilding title. From Mr. Universe to Arnold Classic and the Mr. Olympia, Coleman won it all.

In fact, the former champion tied Lee Haney for the most Mr. Olympia wins at 8 titles. He won 26 IFBB titles during his career and, even after retirement, won honors like the Arnold Schwarzenegger Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

However, this wasn't the only recent nostalgic post from Coleman. On April 22, the 8x Mr. Olympia reminisced about how it all started. "It all started with a free membership to @originalmetroflexgym!" he wrote in the caption of another montage on Instagram.

Ronnie Coleman bounced back from a medical emergency

Last year, Coleman faced a health scare and had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency care. Coleman had suffered a sepsis attack.

Fortunately, Ronnie Coleman got diagnosed in time, and the bodybuilding icon credited his 13-year-old daughter for saving his life by calling 911. However, the battle with sepsis was one of the hardest yet in the bodybuilder's life.

"Ronnie is currently under close medical care, and while his condition remains delicate, we’re encouraged to share that he is awake, aware, and fully conscious," Coleman's family said in a statement on July 3, 2025.

Another update on July 7 revealed that doctors discovered other complications. "Doctors identified an additional underlying health matter that will require a surgical procedure," read the update.

However, by September 2025, Ronnie Coleman had made a recovery and was back in the gym. He's been back at it regularly since then.
