Ronnie Coleman's & Dorian Yates's weaknesses get an honest assessment
When looking objectively, 8-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman and 6-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates have created their own identities and legacies in the bodybuilding world. However, according to the official Instagram account of the late Mike Mentzer, both legends have structural flaws.
On May 15, the Instagram account posted a photo highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of Coleman and Yates, captioning it, “peak Dorian vs Peak Ronnie. Who wins?” So, let's dive deep into the context and analyze.
Ronnie Coleman
According to the post, although Coleman was known for his back width and thickness, as well as his calves and thighs, 'The King’s' weakest areas were his biceps and chest.
Let's look into the stats.
During his peak, Coleman had a highly conditioned physique and massive size. At 5’11”, Coleman showed unparalleled mass, vascularity, and density.
The physical measurement during that time includes:
- Chest: 60 inches
- Arms: 24 inches
- Thighs: 36 inches
- Waist: 36 inches
- Off-season weight: 315 to 330 lbs
- Contest weight: 287 to 300 lbs.
Additionally, according to the post, Coleman, known for his on-stage pose, used to strike impressive poses during the rear lat spread. However, his side chest pose is considered weak.
Dorian Yates
For Yates, who believes in a high-intensity workout approach, the strength body parts were back width and thickness, thighs, and calves.

And as per the post, Yates' weaknesses were his abs and calves. Additionally, like Coleman, Yates was good at the rear lat spread pose and bad at posing his abs and thighs.
Some stats of Yates during his peak included:
- Chest: 55 to 56 inches
- Waist: 33 to 38 inches
- Arms: 21 inches
- Thighs: 30 inches
- Calves: 21 inches
- Height: 5’10”
- Off-season weight: 290 to 305 lbs
- During contest weight: 255 to 265 lbs.
So, with such body statuses, no one seems weak, and both have proven their capabilities over the years.
