Ryan Terry's 2023 Mr. Olympia victory was decades in the making. After eight failed attempts, he nearly retired.

In a recent interview at the “Dubai Muscle Show”, the 3-time Mr. Olympia winner revealed how he changed his training tactics based on Steve Weinberger’s tips to make a comeback.

“In 2023, like I said, we talked about retirement, and in that year, there was one other title that I hadn’t gotten yet...So we sat down, and I spoke to Steve, and he told me about my back. I needed to bring my back up. And up until that point, pure stupidity, I’ll put my hands up. Or probably naivety rather than stupidity—I should have spoken to them in previous years. But I just kept myself to myself. I trained myself. I didn’t know to speak to judges and ask for help”.

Getting advice from the Mr. Olympia head judge turned the tide. To put it into context, Terry had finished second in the Men's Physique category back in 2016. In the following years, he couldn't match that number, and in 2022, he had finished seventh.

After getting the feedback, Ryan Terry worked harder on his back. He competed stateside and got even more feedback from judges, competing at events like the New York Pro. It meant a win in 2023 and two more that followed in 2024 and 2025.

Now that his resume is complete, the question of whether he will compete again has come to the surface.

Ryan Terry's future plan

On December 29th, 2025, My Protein, on its Instagram account, shared a post in which Ryan Terry was seen revealing his future plan when asked how many Mr. Olympia titles he wants to earn.

“I'm not saying it's four, I'm not saying it's five, I'm not saying it's six, but until my body tells me or until my family or I'm ready to give in, that's when I'll pack it”.

He also said, “But on the flip side, I definitely want to go out on top. I don't want to just be that guy where everyone's wishing him to move on or I lose it. I'd like to go out on my terms”.
