Selena Gomez Felt Upset After Her Diet Was Discussed Publicly

Selena Gomez has often faced online scrutiny regarding her diet and health over the years. After working to shift those conversations in a more positive direction, she reportedly felt “blindsided” following her husband’s public comments on the subject.

Although her husband, Benny Blanco, was not intentional in hurting her feelings, the comments still had a negative impact on Selena Gomez.

During the Goop live podcast recording with Gwyneth Paltrow, Blanco commented on how Gomez has “the diet of a five-year-old.” This referred to Blanco catching Gomez eating at Jack in the Box, which is a brand of burgers and fries, at 6.45 in the morning.

"This morning I walked in and she was eating Jack in the Box at 6:45 in the morning," he said.

He went on to reveal how Gomez “doesn’t really like fruits or vegetables,” laughing at how she prefers junk food.

Benny Blanco said that one of the few nutritious options Selena consistently enjoys comes from Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness-inspired takeout brand.

Meanwhile, Selena has been working actively to develop a healthy relationship with her body and with food over the last few years.

How Selena Gomez Rebuilt Her Relationship with Food

In 2011, Selena Gomez was reportedly hospitalized after dealing with exhaustion and nutritional issues.

“I do eat. The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me,” she admitted at the time.

The pop star then underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 due to lupus, and the recovery was quite challenging. She recalled feeling nervous and anxious during the initial stages, especially when she first decided to share her journey with the world.

"[Being open] isn't an easy thing to ask of someone," she explained in an interview with People magazine. "I've had to go away a few times for stuff I didn't know [I was struggling with] and was confused by. And then this stigma came: What would people think? But when I thought about it, my first answer was, 'I don't care, this is my truth.'"

She began finding comfort in cooking. What began as a simple passion project soon turned into an HBO Max series- Selena + Chef. Selena started exploring the culinary world, learning to love different foods, creating recipes, and developing an overall healthy relationship with food.
