7 celebrities who nailed the Murph workout
The Murph is a CrossFit workout performed to honor the sacrifice of US Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michel Murphy. This workout is performed wearing a 20-lb weighted vest or body armor.
In fact, performing this workout has become a Memorial Day tradition within the fitness community.
The Murph workout includes:
- 1 mile run
- 100 pull-ups
- 200 push-ups
- 300 squats
- 1 mile run again
Recently, several Hollywood actors and tech billionaires have been seen participating in the Murph workout and putting in effort. Some of the celebrities are:
Taylor Kitsch
Taylor Kitsch has closer ties to Murph than to anyone else. The actor portrayed Lt. Michael Murphy in the movie Lone Survivor.

While no official time has been publicly shared, Kitsch is known for having participated in the challenge. In fact, he underwent the Murph workout while preparing for his role as the decorated NAVY SEAL, making it the ultimate tribute.
Chris Pratt
According to Men’s Health, American actor Chris Pratt participates in the Murph workout every year. Pratt had previously shared that he completed it in 58:17 while wearing a 20-lb vest.
He even filmed the challenge in Los Angeles once, with some athletes and celebrities at the Unbreakable Performance gym.
Dwayne Johnson
The professional wrestler and actor The Rock has also completed the Murph workout after being challenged by fellow actor John Krasinski.
Johnson described that day as one filled with “sweat, pain, and a few miscounts.”
John Krasinski
American actor and filmmaker John Krasinski has also survived this challenge multiple times.
Although no official finishing time has been publicly shared, the actor has encouraged more people to take part in the Memorial Day event, hoping to take Murph beyond the fitness community and into the eye of the general public.
Jay Glazer
TV personality and sports reporter Jay Glazer has been seen participating in the Murph challenge alongside actor Pratt during a group session at the Unbreakable Performance gym in West Hollywood.
However, he has not publicly shared any official time.
Mark Zuckerberg
On May 26, Meta CEO Zuckerberg shared a post on his Instagram handle, captioning, “Taking a page out of the @jockowillink playbook. Murph challenge 2026. Proud to be a part of it.”
In the past, the tech giant wore a 20-lb vest and completed the challenge in just 39:58.
Zuckerberg and his daughter participate in the Murph challenge every Memorial Day. His daughter has reportedly completed the unweighted quarter-Murph in just 15 minutes.
Tom Hopper
Tom Hopper, best-known for his roles in The Terminator: Dark Fate, Merlin, and The Umbrella Academy, has also participated in the challenge, but with a modification. His Murph version includes:
- 5km row
- 300 squats
- 200 push-ups
- 100 pull-ups
- 5km row again
As most of the celebrities on this list prove, the important thing is to take part in the challenge rather than keeping an eye on the clock.
Participating in this challenge can help everyone bring a health-first mindset to stay healthy and fit while honoring the sacrifices of heroes like Michael Murphy, who lost their lives in the line of duty.
