75-Year-Old 'Godfather of Bodybuilding' Provides Belt Squats Tips For Legs

When you are known as the 'Godfather of Bodybuilding,' your words carry weight, and the community and fitness enthusiasts will definitely listen.
Recently, the widely accepted Godfather of Bodybuilding, Charles Glass, posted a video on Instagram, sharing tips for belt squats to build legs. He captioned the video as, “You want growth? Take the ego out. Belt squat forces contraction, not momentum. Master the movement, the size follows. 🦵🏾🔥”
In that video, the 75-year-old Glass highlighted the importance of depth while performing a belt squat. One must drive their hips forward, which shifts the focus to the glutes rather than the quads.
Charles Glass shared these tips while instructing Dr. Grace G. Firestone. He said, “It’s a belt squat, all we’re doing is getting really good depth on it. Drive the hips forward to put more pressure on the glutes and minimal on your quads."
Glass also stressed these three things while performing the belt squats:
- Driving the hips forward,
- Keeping toes slightly out, and
- Keeping hips backward and pulling forward.
Glass is now a prominent name in the IFBB Pro League, with renowned disciples, like Kai Greene, Dennis James, and Dexter Jackson. Currently, he is actively training the younger athletes.
Glass guided Lauralie Chapados on her back day before the 2025 Bikini Olympia to maximize her muscle and mind connection.
And this is not the first time; he has built his reputation for underscoring common workout mistakes in his superset workout schedules.
Charles Glass' suggested technique for Chest Flys
The 'Godfather of Bodybuilding' knows several ways to make every rep count. In a recent video with Gold’s Gym trainer Oleksiy Mokshyn, Glass shared the correct technique for building pecs with chest flys.
He advised raising the bench slightly first. Then, to control the stretch and a twist at the top, instead of rushing the movements, use the traditional fly.
Glass said, "When you turn it with the elbows turning, you can feel it in the chest. It puts more contraction on the pecs right away.”
