6000 Calories a Day?: Here’s What World’s Strongest Man Reyno Nel Ate and Trained for the Title
The average person takes up to 2000 calories a day, and it also depends on how their daily routine looks, or whether they are working out daily or not, but the story is completely different if you have the title of the world's strongest man. Reyno Nel takes three times of calories a normal human being takes, 6000. The 30-year-old, born in Upington, South Africa, started his career as a Rugby player and later won competitions for the strongest man in South Africa itself.
But what really fuels the strongest of all? Let's take a look.
The Diet of The World's Strongest Individual
To achieve that explosive strength and power, Reyno Nel followed a diet plan that religiously followed high calorie intake and which contained not only protein but the highest amounts of carbs as well, because carbs are the best source of energy and you gotta need that energy to lift those heavy weights for sure. Nel’s days during his strongest man prep were filled with 5 to 6 meals a day. Nel says, and I quote, “I eat clean.”
He loves red meat, he said, “Luckily, in South Africa, red meat isn’t that expensive,” so I did a lot of steak. As this isn't surprising at all that to get stronger, one needs a lot of protein, which comes from steak for Reyno, but what is surprising is that he likes pasta, which doesn't seem a healthier option for the quality of a man of him.
So, Bitlong pasta is a popular dish, especially in South Africa, which comes with a unique flavor of biltong (a type of cured, air-dried meat), from which the unique flavor kicks in.
Preparations for the title: Reyno Nel’s Workout routine
Reyno did high-volume specific training for the competition, which included Heavy deadlifts, log presses, yoke carries, and natural stone lifting. Grip strength training becomes a major part if you are preparing for these types of competitions, as you have to lift uneven objects during the competition. sandbag carries, and truck pulling. And to do all this, he took constant therapy and gave rest to his body as much as he could.
As for supplements, he took creatine for fast recovery and Amino acids. Reyno preferred clean eating and gave it a top-most priority.
