6× Mr. Olympia Chris Bumstead Opens Up on Physical Setback

Just like Ronnie Coleman, the 6x Mr. Olympia, Chris Bumstead, has also suffered his share of physical setbacks during his career, but the issues haven't gone away even though he retired in October 2024.

On February 17, the 31 year-old shared an Instagram post featuring a few of his daily activities including workouts. While Bumstead looked in good spirits in the videos, the caption of his post detailed that he wasn't in the same state a few days back.

He detailed the issue, penning, "Honestly, I just haven’t felt like myself physically. Everything was aching more than it should. Old stuff popping up. Joints incredibly sore. Training felt harder than normal and I couldn’t really figure out why."

Bumstead also ran some tests to diagnose the problem, but failed to arrive to a conclusion. Interestingly, some random antibiotics eventually helped reduce his joint pain. He further detailed his condition, writing, “Still not perfect, but way better than it was.”

Besides describing his physical setback, Bumstead also advocated the usage of creatine for working out in a sleep-deprived condition. “If you’re running on low sleep and still training… a quadruple dose of creatine first thing in the morning definitely hits the spot," said the 31-year-old.

Nevertheless, Bumstead is far from being the only one who favors the use of creatine.

Several Other Noted Bodybuilder Share Chris Bumstead's Thoughts on Creatine

Creatine supplements have multiple benefits. They improve athletic performance, increasing muscle mass, assisting in recovery, and building strength.

The 4-time Mr. Olympia winner, Jay Cutler, views creatine as one of the best muscle-building supplements. He said, “Creatine. Okay, like I said, this is the longest researched and most effective product. Male or female, this product is great.”

Apart from Cutler, Arnold Schwarzenegger listed creatine in his top 3 essential supplements along with protein and vitamin D. 'The Austrian Oak' said, “I’ve probably recommended creatine to more people than any other single thing in my career.”

He recommends a dose of 10-20g of creatine per day for and adult individual, as it also supports cognitive health.
