“Some of the Dance Exercises”: Morgan Freeman, 88, Prefers Only Working Out at Home

A career spanning over six decades and multiple box office hits to his name, including Now You See Me, you might expect Morgan Freeman to have hit the brakes on acting. But he has merely just taken his foot off the gas pedal.

Even at 88, retirement feels off the table for Freeman. And it's not just his work ethic driving him to deliver his best performance even today. His fitness philosophy, centered on endurance, has played a significant role in his staying active to date.

The secret to his longevity is simple: “Keep moving.” A strong emphasis on routine movement and discipline keeps the wheel rolling for Freeman, who, taking a page out of Clint Eastwood's book, refuses to "let the old man in.”

However, his fame can often be an inconvenience, especially at public gyms. "Everyone wants a selfie, and I just say, 'No, but thank you very much for asking,'" Freeman shared.

Therefore, the actor chooses to always train at home. That, however, comes with its own perks, leaving room for wonder and experiments.

"I work out at my home gym and use some of the dance exercises I’ve been doing for years," he told Senior Planet. A consistent routine built on discipline, passion, and a history that often escapes notice.

Morgan Freeman's connection to dancing before Hollywood stardom

Long before Freeman got recognition for his acting roles on the screen, he was a trained dancer to make ends meet.

In fact, in his early 20s, when his career had yet to take off, he described himself as a "hoofer" or a professional tap dancer, performing in NYC and LA to pay his bills.

However, beyond that, the Gunner actor is also trained in ballet and folk dancing, adding to his charismatic stage presence, including Broadway musicals like Hello Dolly.

That shaped an important facet of his career, something he carries to this day. But he often has to remind himself of his limits. "You know you’re going to tweak something if you’re not careful... You can still look good and take it easy," Freeman told Associated Press.

And perhaps, that's exactly the secret to his vitality—a love for movements and a mindful approach that respects the boundaries of his age.
