Steve Austin's bold take on fitness at 61- "focus on your basic eating."
Are supplements necessary for fitness? The answer isn’t black and white; it often comes down to personal goals and preferences. But if you ask Stone Cold Steve Austin, he keeps it refreshingly simple: health depends a lot on basic eating habits.
On March 12, the former six-time WWE champion sat down with Mike O’Hearn on his YouTube channel. During the chat, Mike mentioned that when he gives clients a proper nutrition plan, their first question is usually about supplements, “Okay, so what vitamins do you want me on? How much cardio do you want me?”
Mike was expressing his frustration, wanting his clients to stick to the basics. That’s when Austin chimed in, echoing that before you “micromanage everything,” it’s better to “focus on your basics, eating your food groups." He asked people to "get that lined up.”

Well, both Mike and Austin are absolutely right in their assessment. When Dr. Howard Sesso, an epidemiologist at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was asked about this study, he expressed, “It's best to improve the diet before using supplements.”
That’s because vitamins and minerals are most potent when they come from food. Dr. Sesso highlights that natural food items contain many other beneficial nutrients like carotenoids, flavonoids, minerals, and antioxidants, which are nearly non-existent in supplements.
So, how does Steve Austin prefer his diet nowadays? Let’s take a look.
Inside Stone Cold Steve Austin’s No-Nonsense Diet
Back in his prime, Steve Austin used to chug a lot of b***. He certainly loved it, but he still kept his macros in check by following a protein-rich, fibrous diet. However, after retiring, he completely changed his diet.
Speaking to Muscle & Fitness, the WWE legend expressed that after his knee surgery, he stopped drinking a****** and followed a strict diet. He said, “After I had my knee surgery, I wasn’t really training. I ate when I felt hungry. Right now, I’ve got my calories dialed in to about 3,600 a day.”
He further added, “Protein is at about 325 grams, carbs at 300 grams, fat at 125 grams. I measure everything that goes into my body. Zero alcohol. I’m bulking, and I’m doing physical therapy on my leg right now.” At 61, Steve Austin is still fitter than his contemporaries and rarely skips training.
So, do you think you will be able to maintain a similar vitality when you're 61?
