When medical researchers developed the ketogenic diet in the early 1920s, they could not have imagined it would evolve into a mainstream phenomenon. Originally designed as a clinical therapy, keto later seemed to find its way into nearly every American household, including your favorite celebrities.

From Kanye West to Kourtney Kardashian, high-profile figures promoted the diet. So let’s have a look at the top celebs who have tried the diet and see how it changed them.

Kanye West

Back when he was living with Kim, Kanye reportedly leaned heavily towards fast food. His orders included Big Macs, milkshakes, and a sweet pie on the side. That’s not all, he preferred to keep his fridge fully stocked with sodas, ice cream, fruit juices, bacon, and other indulgent staples.

His meals typically feature indulgent, protein-forward choices such as lobster, French toast topped with blueberries and cream cheese, and jerk meats.

Kourtney Kardashian

Often viewed as one of the most health-consious memer of the family, Kourtney Kardashian, back in 2018, revealed through a wellness portal that she follows a ketogenic diet, and as per her, the diet delivered her noticeable benefits. As part of the approach, she swapped traditional carbohydrates for low-carb alternatives such as cauliflower and broccoli rice.

It did help her, but not without drawbacks. Kardashian revealed that she experienced headaches and low energy in the initial phases. So to avoid long-term strain, she follows keto in short, controlled cycles

Kim Kardashian

Another Kardashian joins the list. Like her sister and her former husband, Kim turned to a low-carb approach as her go-to health plan. After giving birth to her son, Saint, she followed the Atkins 40 diet and went on to shed a significant amount of weight.

For those who don’t know, Atkins 40 targets individuals aiming for moderate weight loss. Just like Keto, it also cuts down on the carbs while increasing the fats.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Back in 2021, the ‘Iron Man’ actor revealed that she followed a vegan version of the keto diet. She attempted to ‘reset’ her body to manage her post-COVID symptoms. As Paltrow put it, she was facing severe irritability and mental fog. Well, experts added that the keto diet might help her get fit, but it won’t really help her lift her mood.

Vinny Guadagnino

Back in 2018, after reenetering te paparazzi's eyes with his MTV’s Jersey Shore Family Reunion, Guadagnino disclosed a major shift in his eating habits. He revealed that he followed the ketogenic diet and even created a separate Instagram presence under the handle @ketoguido to document the lifestyle.

Guess what? He turned this into a business as well. Just a year later, he published his cookbook with the name The Keto Guido Cookbook, which includes more than 100 keto-focused recipes along with a one-week meal plan.

Megan Fox

The Transformers actress credits a strict low-carb diet for helping her stay fit after having three kids.

Adriana Lima

Being a supermodel, Adriana Lima understands the importance of staying lean, and for that, she embraced a strict low-carb routine. In a conversation with New York Magazine’s The Cut, she confessed, “Definitely zero carbs for sure.”

As per her, she avoided starchy foods and even skipped carrots that came with the lunch. Her diet largely consisted of green vegetables and protein, with protein shakes or cereal bars as snacks. According to an Insider story published in July 2018, she has continued to follow a keto-focused diet since then.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry has openly backed the ketogenic diet for decades now. Back in 2021, in a conversation with ‘The Insider’, Berry revealed that she has been on the keto diet for 30 years as a way to manage diabetes. Earlier, she made comments about prioritizing meat, avoiding pasta, and completely refraining from adding sugar to her diet.

Alicia Vikander

Our very own Lara Croft has even tried the Keto diet. Alicia Vikander shifted to a ketogenic diet roughly two months before production started on Tomb Raider to prepare for her role as Lara Croft.

Vikander’s trainer, Magnus Lygdback, said it was difficult for her at first. However, with time, she adjusted her eating habits to fit in lean protein from fish, fats from MCT oil, coconut oil, and avocados, along with a steady intake of low-carbohydrate vegetables during filming.

Vanessa Hudgens

The High School Musical actress has been very vocal about her Keto diet. “I’m always making sure I’m getting those healthy fats in, so I eat a LOT of almond butter. You feel really energetic and supported on the keto diet,” she explained.

Back in 2017, Vanessa Hudgens lost about 20 pounds, all thanks to her Keto diet as well as SoulCycle training. She later added intermittent fasting and now uses a more flexible form of keto during long workdays.
