10 High-Carb Foods That Are Actually Healthy for the Body- Reality and Benefits

Carbohydrates aren't as bad as most people think they are! While it’s true that refined carbs and added sugars can negatively impact health, that doesn’t mean carbohydrates are entirely bad.

In fact, many natural high-carb foods provide essential nutrients, fiber, and significant health benefits.

Here’s a look at some of them.

1) Quinoa

Rich in fiber, protein, and carbohydrates, Quinoa is one of the best protein supplements out there. Not only does it have macro-nutrients, but quinoa is also rich in minerals and plant compounds, which are linked to better blood sugar control and health. In addition to that, it’s gluten-free.

2) Oats

Raw Oats are approximately 70% carbs. An 81 g serving of Oats will include 54 g of carbs, but despite that, it is one of the healthiest breakfast options out there.

Research has shown that a daily consumption of oats might reduce your cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

3) Buckwheat

Another gluten-free pseudocereal carb-rich food is buckwheat. In addition to carbs, Buckwheat is high in antioxidants, minerals as well.

Per 100 g cooked serving of Buckwheat has 19.9 grams of carbs. Studies have shown that Buckwheat is quite beneficial for health, and it helps with blood sugar regulation as well.

4) Bananas

Rich in potassium, carbohydrates, and B vitamins, Bananas contribute to blood pressure regulation. Unripe bananas are rich in starch, which supports gut health as well.

5) Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes offer complex carbs. In addition to that, they are rich in vitamins A & C, and antioxidants. A healthy consumption of sweet potatoes contributes to better immunity, better skin, and eye health, while fiber supports digestion.

6) Beets

The sweetness in beets comes from natural sugars, which provide carbohydrates. Rich in plant compounds and inorganic nitrates, they are packed with minerals and nutrients. Athletes sometimes use beetroot juice to enhance their physical performance due to their high nitrate content.

7) Oranges

Unlike the others in the list, Oranges provide water-rich carbs, which are good for heart health and help prevent kidney stones. Rich in Vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants, they are one of the best citrus fruits out there. The compounds in orange help in anemia prevention as well.

8) Blueberries

Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, blueberries are one of the best sources of good carbs. Helps in protecting cells from oxidative damage.

Further studies have showcased that healthy consumption of blueberries may even improve memory function in adults.

9) Apples

The last fruit on the list is the apple, which is not only rich in carbohydrates but also in fiber, vitamin C, and beneficial plant compounds. There are way too many benefits of eating apples, but the most important is that healthy consumption helps in reducing the risk of certain types of cancer, but more research is needed.

10) Legumes (Kidney Beans & Chickpeas)

Legumes such as kidney beans and chickpeas are rich in carbs, fiber, and plant-based protein. These support blood sugar regulation, digestive health, and may reduce some chronic disease risks.
