10x Strongman competitor Nick Best begins walking in recovery post gruesome injury

The American strongman and powerlifter Nick Best, a 10-time Strongman competitor, has given an update on his speedy recovery after a gruesome injury.

In May, Best underwent a successful hip replacement surgery to repair his torn labrum and hip mechanics issues. On May 22, Best shared an update on his recovery after surgery in an Instagram post. It displayed him taking a few steps with support and crossing hurdles after the surgery.

The caption to Best's post read, “Little steps lead to the big steps. Recovery isn’t about rushing — it’s about showing up every day, taking it seriously, and putting the work in one step at a time. That’s how you come back stronger.”

On another Instagram post on May 20, Best opened up about his philosophy on recovery.

On the post, he was seen walking with the help of walking sticks, and he wrote, “Every day I’m getting stronger. Every day I’m feeling better. 💪 Physical therapy is the key to recovery. This isn’t my first injury, and I know the process — one day at a time, one step at a time.

You keep showing up. You keep working. That’s how you come back.”

This is not the first time the Strongman, Best, has demonstrated his resilience.

Nick Best trained hard after his Lat injury

Best participated in the 2021 Kern US Open, where he took the stage hoping to break his own deadlift record of 815.7 lbs in the over-50, 308.647 lbs category.

However, that did not happen. Talking about the experience with BarBend, he said, “When I pull, if the bar comes off the ground, I’ve got it. I almost never miss. I felt like it was going to go, and [my] lat gave. It felt like I got shot in the arm or something.”

He left with a lateral tear of the tendon and underwent surgery on May 13, 2021.

For many, such a surgery left one with the rest of 12 to 16 weeks. However, Best did not take that much time.

He performed movements like step-ups and other bodyweight exercises to keep a high heart rate. After 2 weeks, his tear had cleared out. Just a few days after July 2021, Best started practicing deadlifts.

So, does his story inspire you to continue doing your thing despite setbacks?
