The Story Behind White House Chef Andre Rush’s 2,222 Push-Ups
Doing 2,222 pushups might be a dream for an average person, but the former White House Chef Andre Rush achieves this incredible feat every day, and there's a unique story behind it.
On March 10, Wealth dropped an Instagram post that revealed Rush's startling 2,222 pushup achievement. However, it disclosed a lot more than just detailing the 51-year-old's daily pushup count. It mentioned that he can also bench press over "700 pounds," and boasts startling "24-inch" biceps.
The caption to the post also stated the different roles he plays besides being a chef. It read, "The 2,222 daily push-ups, 24-inch biceps, and 700-pound bench press image made him [Rush] part chef, part soldier, part motivational figure."
On April 4, 2020, Rush, who has served under four presidents from 1997 to 2018, shared the story behind his push-ups in an exclusive interview with Generation Iron. He revealed, “It’s not just my workout. There’s a meaning behind it. The 2,222 comes from the idea that 22 veterans die by s***** each day. That’s something I deeply care about.”
He further explained, “It’s not only about the veterans or the military. It’s also about the spouses, the kids, and anyone else who may be struggling. Mental health is huge right now—not only in this country, but around the world. There’s a real meaning behind all of it.”
In the video, Andre also said that he performs push-ups every single day, but “except for Saturday and Sunday.” On those days, he wakes up at “3 o'clock in the morning,” and performs meditation. Rush’s workout takes 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete, and then he goes to his usual work.
Even Rush’s fitness mentality once impressed former president Barack Obama.
Talking about Obama, Rush told OK! magazine, "The most [memorable time] was when he asked me about fitness and fitness tips. It's pretty humbling when he'd come up to me [despite having] his trainers [that do] everything”.
While his dedication to fitness is visible, Rush’s influence inside the kitchen is equally remarkable.
Andrew Rush reveals the favorite dish of President Donald Trump
During his interview with OK!, Rush also revealed the dish that the reigning POTUS, Donald Trump, likes the most. He said, “At one of the estate dinners, I made this mac and cheese that had seven different cheeses. It was a lot…. It wound up being one of his [Trump's] favorite things. He literally fell in love with [it].”
Apart from that, Andre Rush appeared on the 69th episode of MBC's It's a Relief to Rest Well last year, which aired on October 13, 2025.
On the show, Rush demonstrated his culinary expertise and shared a dish. He said, “This dish originated from my hometown, Mississippi.” He further shared that “Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump all loved this food.”
Although the recipe for the dish is not available, in the episode, he also made a new dish inspired by Korean cuisine. Even the program's cast praised the dish, saying, “Even US presidents would want to try this.”
From 2,222 push-ups to raising awareness for veterans and then preparing meals for U.S. presidents, Rush has proven that discipline and determination can also shape a memorable legacy, along with a strong body.
