Tony Jeffries sets Guinness World Record with 147,218 punches in 24 hours

Best known for winning an Olympic bronze medal for Great Britain at the Beijing Games (2008), Tony Jeffries is one of the biggest boxing coaches on YouTube. As per a recent Instagram post shared by his online boxing education and fitness platform @boxingfitnessacademy, he celebrated his 40th birthday on March 2, 2025, by setting the Guinness World Record for 147,218 punches in 24 hours.

While most people are busy cutting cake and celebrating with friends on their 40th, Jeffries had a completely different plan. With an average of 6,134 punches every hour or 1.7 punches every second, Jeffries showcased his passion and dedication, one punch at a time.

“Tony boxed right through the day and night, pushing through exhaustion, pain, and fatigue to complete the challenge. Every punch had to meet the Guinness World Records standard for a full extension punch,” a part of the Instagram caption read.

The Guinness World Record took place at GymNation in Motor City, Dubai, with the entire challenge being livestreamed on his YouTube Channel. The record was officially adjudicated by Emma Brain, official Guinness World Records adjudicator, alongside over 20 certified martial arts experts.

Owner of Boxing Fitness Academy, Jeffries has been providing online certifications and training to millions around the world. The Instagram post gathered over 8K likes within hours, showcasing his massive fan following and their admiration for the boxing genius.

Many are wondering what kind of training it takes to reach Jeffries ' level of boxing skills and set world records. Jeffries' training philosophy is simple: master the basics, skip the flashy workouts.

How Tony Jeffries trains for a 24-hour boxing marathon

Before throwing a record-breaking 147,218 punches in a matter of 24 hours, Jeffries invested the time and hard work to perfect his technique and power through years of training.

He often shares his training videos on his Instagram and YouTube channels, inspiring and training others around the world.

As per his YouTube videos and tutorials, found on his official site, Jeffries’ boxing-specific workout routine included:

  • Warming up with 5-10 minutes of jump rope.
  • Shadowboxing
  • Footwork drills
  • Heavy bag work
  • Mitt work
  • Bodyweight conditioning (burpees, push-ups, planks, core circuits, mountain climbers)
  • Strength training
  • Boxing intervals

He has also shared an incredible YouTube video on his channel highlighting some of the most common boxing mistakes that you should be aware of before you begin training. These common mistakes include:

  • Dropping your non-punching hand
  • Keeping your chin too high
  • Throwing arm punches instead of pivoting your hip
