Every professional bodybuilder, at least once in their life, dreams of walking the Mr. Olympia stage and winning the title.

Much like Olympic medals or Super Bowl rings, the Mr. Olympia crown is the most cherished prize in bodybuilding.

That raises an interesting question: which country has produced the most Mr. Olympia champions? Well, let’s find out.

United States

Sitting comfortably at the top, the United States has clinched 37 Mr. Olympia titles to date. The leaderboard of winners includes legendary figures such as Lee Haney (8), Ronnie Coleman (8), Jay Cutler (4), and pioneers like Larry Scott, among many others.

American dominance in the sport is unparalleled, so much so that the current Mr. Olympia, Derek Lunsford, is also from the USA.

Austria

Coming in at number #2 is Austria, and from the European nation, only one name comes up: Arnold Schwarzenegger. In his prime, he was idolized for his huge chest and bulging biceps.

He defined what is now known as the Golden Era of bodybuilding. After his sixth title, he moved to the silver screen and later migrated to the USA as well.

United Kingdom

At number three stands the empire, thanks to Dorian Yates and Samson Dauda. Yates dominated from 1992 to 1997, winning six titles in that span, and is often credited with launching the “Mass Monster” era.

After Yates, Dauda preserved the UK’s legacy by becoming only the second Brit to win the title, achieving the feat in 2024.

Cuba

Cuba makes it to the list thanks to “The Myth” Sergio Oliva, who won three straight Mr. Olympia titles in the late 1960s. He even defeated Arnold Schwarzenegger at Schwarzenegger’s first Mr. Olympia appearance.

Oliva’s genetics and structure were so far ahead of their time that his legacy still sparks debate today.

Italy

Italy joined bodybuilding’s elite through Franco Columbu, a two-time Mr. Olympia (1976, 1981). Just 5′5″ and under 200 pounds, he proved size isn’t everything with a championship-worthy physique.
