UK's King Charles III gets honored with BJJ white belt at Roger Gracie's academy

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has gained immense popularity and appreciation from around the globe after Royce Gracie made it popular in the UFC. And now, the UK’s King Charles III has become a part of the BJJ community as he received an honorary white belt.

Roger Gracie, Royce Gracie’s first cousin, won 10 IBJJF World Championship titles at black belt. He also founded the Roger Gracie Academy, his flagship BJJ academy in London. The Instagram video was posted by Russell Myers on June 24, 2026. It is captioned,

"King Charles was presented with his honorary Brazilian Jiu Jitsu white belt today, by the legendary Roger Gracie at his academy in Hammersmith, west London."

King Charles doesn't practice BJJ, but the honorary white belt symbolized his respect for the sport and REORG's mission. However, the monarch actively supports several charities and sports.

King Charles III recognized for supporting the BJJ community

REORG, a British charity organization, offers assistance and support through the art of BJJ to those in need. It supports the mental and physical well-being of current members of service, emergency service workers, and war veterans. It also supports individuals with severe physical and mental injuries or trauma.

Sam Sheriff, a former Royal Marines Commando and BJJ black belt, and Jamie Sanderson established the charity organization in 2017, as per Forcesnews.com.

Partnering with various BJJ clubs globally, the REORG offers free training sessions to eligible candidates, helping them regain confidence, form a sense of community, and become resilient.

These efforts help promote good overall mental and physical health.

King Charles III’s visit to the Roger Gracie Academy highlighted REORG’s incredible, unrelentless work. Moreover, it was a sign of recognition and respect for his support for the charity and its invaluable mission.

King Charles III’s honorary BJJ white belt highlighted how the sport continues to bring together people from different walks of life.
