US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Joins Tough Military Workout on USS Boxer

In an Instagram reel posted by @channelnewsasia, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth joined a grueling military workout in Singapore on May 29. During a visit to speak at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Hegseth decided to train alongside Marines and sailors, signaling his support for the troops who are serving miles away from home.

The video showcases Hegseth performing jumping jacks, push-ups, jumping squats, mountain climbers, and more, all the while keeping up with the younger gang. His dedication to push through the intense workouts deserves appreciation, although he makes a hilarious excuse to take a small break and catch his breath.

“I’m trying to stay with these young kids,” he says. “It’s a tough league. These kids are studs.”

The punishing session did not seem to waver his spirit, though. He quickly returned to the grind, powering through the challenge and making it till the very end.

“This is me looking like I want to be talking to you, but I actually just want a break.”

The demanding military workout on USS Boxer gave viewers an insight into a principle that Hegseth has continually advocated- physical fitness as a cornerstone of leadership.

Why Physical Fitness Remains Central to Pete Hegseth’s Leadership Style

Physical fitness is not just a routine for Hegseth. In fact, it has turned into a key aspect of how he presents his leadership style. Whether he is training intensively with the troops or visiting his old Army platoon, he emphasizes that strong military leadership begins with discipline and strength.

Hegseth often posts workout videos online, arguing that combat readiness goes way beyond strategy and equipment. Rather, he stresses the importance of physical standards across the armed forces.

As per The Daily Beast, Hegseth also commented, “What an honor and privilege it was just to do. PT, a simple thing that, frankly, the rest of the world takes for granted. Frankly, for a while, too much of the military took for granted.”

As someone who enjoys the grind, he also said, “There’s no reason any day shouldn’t start with good, hard. PT.”

Physical fitness is more than just a personal habit. According to Hegseth, it is a demonstration of discipline, readiness, and resilience- concepts he feels the military should always embody.

Do you think Hegseth's training with troops sends a strong message to viewers about leadership?
