“We Had This Ego”- Jay Cutler Admits Major Insights From His Peak Workout Days During Mr. Olympia

Speaking to his YouTube audience, Jay Cutler shared a major insight from his prime days, recalling when Jose Raymond asked, “Did you ever use tens or 25s when you were training for Olympias?” and the punchline that followed delivered us an unfiltered look into his life.
Cutler admitted, “Truthfully, I did use 25s and tens. I’m not going to lie,” and the punchline that followed delivered gives us an unfiltered look into his life.
“We had this ego thing where I didn’t touch anything but 45s. Truthfully, I did use 25s and tens—I'm not going to lie. Sometimes you want that little extra resistance, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” said Jay Cutler as he did his back workout routine.
He further added, “I never messed with fives, though. I’ll be honest, I never really went up in five-pound increments, but tens, 25s, 35s? Good pull on this,” said Cutler.”
And this is not the first time Cutler has made statements like this. In 2023, while documenting his arm workout, Cutler emphasized the importance of training with lighter weights and leaving ego-lifting out of the equation.

“When I started going lighter weight and actually feeling it more, that’s when my arms started to grow. So like instead of picking up 80-pound dumbbells and curling those, which I could do, I started focusing more on you know, lighter contraction weight,” said Cutler.
Down in the conversation, the 4x Mr. Olympia revealed the importance of light weights and how diet plays a major role in achieving the best muscle pump
“Pump starts with food,” says Jay Cutler
After revealing stories from his past, Jay Cutler advised his viewers that to achieve a massive pump, they must focus on their dietary habits in addition to their workout sessions. My answer has always stayed the same, Pump starts with food.”
He further added, “You need glycogen in the muscle. That’s what gives you the deep, skin-splitting, crazy pump. But you need to eat to earn it. So I always suggest eating about one hour before training to fuel the session properly and maximize the pump response.”
Many say that achieving a great physique requires 30% focus on training and 70% on diet, and that holds. Jay Cutler, for instance, used to consume 200 grams of protein per day and reportedly spent $100,000 a year during his Mr. Olympia prime
