Arnold Schwarzenegger secured his business degree in 1979 after years of dominating the bodybuilding world. While famous for his physique and films, the superstar’s academic journey involved overcoming dyslexia and financial hardship.

Early school life and higher education of Arnold Schwarzenegger

Schwarzenegger’s early schooling began in his hometown, Thal, Styria. During that time, he was academically average. However, Schwarzenegger stood out for his good-humored and cheerful nature.

When he was in his early school years, Schwarzenegger struggled with reading, but later, when he was diagnosed, it was found that he was dealing with dyslexia.

Apart from that, money was an issue in the household, and it also affected his education at that time.

Regarding high school, the Austrian Oak earned his diploma later in life. He needed this certificate to enroll in the university.

However, he earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1979 at age 31.

Speaking of the time when Schwarzenegger enrolled in his bachelor's program, the Los Angeles Times once wrote,

“An ambitious, six-time Mr. Olympia bodybuilder with grapefruit-sized biceps, Schwarzenegger arrived at age 31 determined to win the one title that had eluded him for nearly a decade: college graduate.”

According to some sources, Schwarzenegger also holds a BA in Business and International Economics, which he earned in 1980 from the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s distance education system.

And that degree helped him in his campaigns for California’s governorship.

The 7-time Mr. Olympia also attended Santa Monica College in California in the 1970s. When he came to the USA, his English-speaking skills were not as strong as they are today. So he took English as a second language, along with math and business courses.

In addition to his degrees, Schwarzenegger also earned several honorary doctorates.

• In 2010, Schwarzenegger earned an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Emory University.
