What Rosie O'Donnell Shared About her Sixty-Pound Transformation
Comedian and actress Rosie O’Donnell has been a familiar face in Hollywood for decades. She recently revealed the health crisis that sparked a 60-pound transformation. A 2012 heart attack forced the star to overhaul her lifestyle.
O’Donnell has always been vocal about body positivity and self-acceptance over the years. However, a heart attack in 2012 prompted her to rapidly change her lifestyle and eating habits.
During an interview with People Magazine in 2014, the Flintstones star said, “I think, for me, always having a weight issue and struggling with weight my whole life, to the point I had a heart attack that almost killed me, and [until] the doctor said, ‘You have to do this,’ I don’t think I would have done it ever.”
The weight-loss surgery played a major role in her relationship with food. From 2012 to 2015, she lost 60 pounds. She went on to claim that she had never felt ‘freer.’
The turning point in her life caused her to reassess her relationship with herself. With the help of weight-loss surgery in 2013 and medication like Mounjaro and Repatha, she was able to find her way back to feeling good about herself.
Speaking about the changes she experienced after the procedure, the 64-year-old explained that the surgery affected not only how much she could eat but also how she viewed food overall. She now feels more energetic and enjoys being active with her children.
Rosie O’Donnell Cosmetic Surgeries and Regrets
O’Donnell is no stranger to going under the knife. Aside from vertical gastric sleeve surgery, she also underwent a lower deep plane facelift.
However, she has done some things she regrets, she admits during an interview on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The talk show host openly talks about her regrets with using Botox, advising others not to go for it.
"My head felt like I had masking tape on it — do not recommend,” she captioned the Instagram post, from August 2025.
Moreover, she talks about how avoiding cosmetic surgery would actually be beneficial for her acting career, allowing her to take on roles that were age-appropriate.
Now, through surgery, a better lifestyle, and self-acceptance, O’Donnell now feels more confident following her lifestyle changes.
