Throughout his NBA career, criticism always followed Allen Iverson. While he often clapped back at the naysayers, there's nothing more iconic than the time he mentioned Arnold Schwarzenegger in his rant.

In a resurfaced NBA press conference from May 7, 2002, posted by the username @napoleonlearns on Instagram, a frustrated Iverson famously slammed the media skeptic of his practice discipline.

"If I build myself up and get a whole lot of muscles and come back in here and look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, are y'all going to give me the MVP award automatically?" the shooting guard retorted. "I mean, I've been the MVP, bony as h---."

Iverson was pushing back against the idea that his physical appearance did not decide his value as a player. Jokingly using Arnold's reference, he explained how adding muscle won't automatically make him a better player.

The bite in his response wasn't random. The press conference was arranged just 4 days after his team, the Philadelphia 76ers, exited the 2002 playoffs following the first round. Their coach, Larry Brown, had shifted the blame over to Iverson, publicly calling him out for missing practice sessions.

Despite delivering peak performance throughout his time with the Sixers, winning 4 scoring titles and 1 MVP, the blatant criticism threw him under the bus. The air was ripe for 'The Answer' to lose his cool.

However, what became a notorious moment in NBA history, Iverson doesn't lose his sleep over the backlash anymore.

Allen Iverson has heard it all—from lack of practice ethic to his unapologetic hip-hop 'thug' style. In fact, some believe that he could've had a more successful career had he only been more disciplined.

However, Iverson thinks that the critics just cannot copy his legacy.

"Everybody got their own notions of what you supposed to do if you are Allen Iverson, what could’ve happened if you were Allen. But you not. You’re not me," he told Andscape.

"God didn’t give you the talent that he gave me," he continued.

Even though he regrets having ignored coach Brown's criticism in the past, Iverson never backs down from putting the media in its place.
