When Arnold Schwarzenegger Explained Ted Turner’s Advice on Work and Advertising Success
The great Ted Turner may have left the world, but his lessons still resonate with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When Arnold Schwarzenegger recalled a powerful piece of advice he received from media mogul Ted Turner at the 10X Growth Conference, it sounded more like a blueprint for domination. It has four simple rules, but the impact of each rule is long-lasting.
“Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell, and advertise.”
Building a billion-dollar media network taught Turner that although talent matters, smart visibility is what makes success impossible to ignore. Schwarzenegger stressed the power of consistent promotion and the importance of advertising by stating that having the best product in the world is nothing if no one knows about it.
As per Schwarzenegger, an idea is only great when it’s shared and recognized. Irrespective of the industry, the key is to determine the product's value and ensure people know about it.
"Advertise, promote, articulate, and let people know what product you're talking about. And this is what is the most important thing about all of this stuff, no matter which business you're in."
Schwarzenegger further discussed his career, his journey, and his failures. He also talked about his rise to bodybuilding, real estate, and acting, and highlighted how real estate made him a millionaire before his Hollywood career.
The Lasting Impact of Ted Turner's Legacy
Media mogul Ted Turner, often referred to as "The Mouth of the South," revolutionized cable TV news by launching CNN, the world's first 24-hour news network, in 1980. Turner was a bold businessman and marketing genius who transformed the media industry with his relentless vision, work ethic, and belief in the power of advertising and promotion.
In addition to CNN, he founded the superstation WTBS and television network TNT. He was also a noted philanthropist who donated a whopping $1 billion to the United States Foundation to strengthen U.S. support for the United Nations.
On May 6, 2026, Turner sadly passed away at the age of 87. The news was announced by Turner Enterprises, which said that the media tycoon was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. He is survived by his 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Talking about Turner, CNN CEO and chairman Mark Thompson stated: “The giant on whose shoulders we stand, and we will all take a moment today to recognise him and his impact on our lives and the world. He was and always will be the presiding spirit of CNN.”
May his soul rest in peace.
