When Jessica Alba Shared Training Insights for Dancing With Tae-Bo: “All About Cardio”

Jessica Alba recently revisited the grueling Tae-Bo training used to prepare for her breakout role in the 2003 film Honey. The actress committed to six-hour rehearsals to master the high-intensity choreography. Alba now maintains her shredded physique through a diverse workout routine shared with her Instagram fans.

For that role, Alba had to undergo intense training and dance rehearsals. One of the dance practices that helped her master the role was Tae-Bo, created by Billy Blanks and known for its high-intensity cardio.

On December 3, 2025, Retro Hollywood Rewind shared an Instagram post recalling the moment when the actresses discussed their training insights for dancing with Tae-Bo.

In the clip from a 2003 interview, when the interviewer asked the Fantastic Four actress about the workout for the role, Alba said, “I basically did Tae-Bo to prep myself because it's such a difficult cardio thing. And dancing is just all about the cardio.

And then once we started shooting, I did more weight lifting and stuff.”

Tae-Bo is a specialized body fitness approach that incorporates MMA techniques such as kicks, punches, and stances, along with traditional choreography. This style became popular in the 1990s.

Due to the movements it involves, Tae-Bo can also boost one’s flexibility, coordination, and balance.

Not only Tae-Bo, but Alba also faced many other challenges in getting the moves down.

During an interview with Wilson Morales in 2003, in response to how challenging the process was to get the moves right, Alba added:

“It’s hard. Six hours of training for 3 ½ months is what I did. I took beginner’s ballet and beginner’s jazz, and then I had to learn how to do hip-hop, which is really fast, and hitting things, and looking cool.

You have to look cool when you do it, and for the movie, they always wanted me to smile. There’s a dance scene with the kids where a kid falls down, and I show her how to do the move. I almost fell through the slats. It was so hard to fall down and look cool and then smile.”

And all those struggles paid off for her in a positive way. The movie’s budget was $18M, and it earned $62.2M at the box office. Not only that, but critics also praised Alba’s work.

For instance, Rotten Tomatoes wrote, “An attractive Jessica Alba and energetic dance numbers provide some lift to this corny and formulaic movie.”

Although her interest in fitness began decades later, Alba still maintains a shredded, fit physique and often shares glimpses of her current workout routine with her Instagram fans.
