White House UFC Event Requires Military Attendees to Meet Strict Fitness Standards
To attend UFC Freedom 250, military personnel must prove their fitness or stay home. Anticipation builds for a never-before-seen UFC event on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14th. Dubbed 'UFC Freedom 250', the evening will be dressed in the colors of the American flag and strict fitness standards.
As part of a massive block of free tickets allocated by the White House, 1200 spots have been reserved for active-duty personnel by the Trump Administration and the Department of Defense. However, the military troops have to pass meticulous physical screening.
As per internal documents authenticated by the Military Times, the Pentagon has issued hard-and-fast criteria for the military set to attend the event, alongside bearing their own travel costs.
The service members must meet a waist-to-height ratio of 0.55 or less, instead of the previous height and weight tables. The medically streamlined approach will "promote consistency and fairness across the Joint Force," noted Anthony Tata, Undersecretary of Defense.
Service-specific physical standard tests will also be administered for the troops. Emphasis on junior officers and “genuine UFC fans” was laid by the document. Moreover, the Pentagon asked the commands to select volunteers from outside Washington, D.C.
These decisions fit a broader trend of tightened fitness standards within the US military.
Increased emphasis on fitness across the troops
In line with the Make America Healthy Again undercurrent dominating the country's athletic sphere, the US troops have levelled up their game as well.
As per Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the American troops will be "fit, not fat. Our troops will look sharp — not sloppy."
Alongside the new body composition tests that have been made mandatory for all wings of the military, personnel's body fat will be monitored at 26% for men and 36% for women.
Moreover, the latest SEAL fitness test has increased in intensity, requiring Navy members to complete four exercises: an 800-meter swim, weighted push-ups, pull-ups, and a timed mile run.
The sex-neutral criteria only have one agenda, as Hegseth shared, "Every warfighter must be held to the same rigorous expectations."
Clearly, America has raised the bar on its fitness expectations — and it's not just the fighters inside the cage who will embody this grit. The military troops will stun the audience, too. Are you excited for UFC Freedom 250?
