Why Did Netflix Cancel Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Action Series?

Arnold Schwarzenegger is moving from the CIA to the North Pole. After Netflix canceled his spy series FUBAR following a sharp decline in viewership, the actor is pivoting to a new project. Schwarzenegger will star alongside Alan Ritchson in the upcoming Prime Video action-comedy Man with a Bag.

His entire career was built on memorable one-liners, impressive stunts, and a charisma that every new generation tries to replicate. Then, in 2023, he stepped into the television circuit and did it in full Schwarzenegger style.

FUBAR was an action-comedy spy series where Schwarzenegger played Luke Brunner, a veteran CIA operative on the verge of retirement who discovers that his daughter is an agent herself. The discovery makes them realize that the two don't really know one another, and to make matters worse, they are paired together for a mission.

What follows is a chaotic mix of espionage, family drama, risky missions, and humor, which are the trademarks of the Hollywood icon.

Talking about the series, Schwarzenegger stated, “Everywhere I go, people ask me when I’m going to do another big action comedy like True Lies. Well, here it is. Fubar will kick your a** and make you laugh – and not just for two hours. You get a whole season.”

The series received mixed to positive reviews from the critics, with Hollywood Reporter calling it "mediocre in all-too-recognizable ways." It was picked up for a second season, but performed even more poorly than the previous season.

According to Deadline, Season 2 failed to reach Netflix’s Top 10 list for English-language series in its first week, garnering only 2.2M views, which was less than the 11M views the season 1 premiere snagged. It led to Netflix cancelling it in 2025.

While the sun might have set on FUBAR, it definitely hasn't on the Terminator. Just like he promised, he is coming back this year.

Arnold Is Coming Back as Santa

Prime Video confirmed Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback to the big screen and his Prime Video debut, alongside Reacher star Alan Ritchson.

The two are teaming up for a new holiday action-comedy movie, Man with a Bag, which is all set for a digital release on December 2 this year. The film is a new spin on holiday comedies. In the movie, the Hollywood legends play Santa Claus, who is desperate to save Christmas after someone steals his magical bag of presents.

In his quest, he is joined by Vance (Ritchson) and his daughter and a group of friends, who try to help him save the holiday.

The film is directed by Adam Shankman, and the screenplay is written by Allan Rice. Apart from Schwarzenegger and Ritchson, the film will also star Awkwafina, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, and Ken Jeong. Michael Cyril Creighton and Berkeley James.
